Support to re-engage students in learning in Auckland

Almost $15 million is being distributed to schools and kura, alternative education providers and Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu, as well as iwi organisations, and Māori and Pacific community providers in Auckland, to support students get back into learning.

Components of the funding package

Fund  Description
$6 million Māori and Pacific Immediate Needs Targeted support through Iwi organisations and Māori and Pacific community providers to respond to the immediate and urgent needs of Māori and Pacific students so they can re-engage in learning, either back at school, online or with another education provider.
$3 million Rapid Resurgence Fund

This funding has been distributed to those schools and kura identified as having the greatest needs. This is to enable those schools and kura to respond to the immediate and urgent needs of learners so they remain engaged in learning.
The Ministry has written to those schools and kura receiving a distribution from the Rapid Resurgence Fund to confirm this will be paid in November 2021.

Auckland Rapid Resurgence Fund

$2.2 million Te Kura 300 programme Support for an additional 300 places for at-risk students referred by schools and kura affected by the COVID-19 Delta lockdown to stay engaged or re-engage in learning.
$1.5 million additional counselling support Additional funding for counselling support for schools and kura to improve the wellbeing of students, focusing on years six to nine.
$1 million for students with learning support needs  In Class Support funding to support attendance and learning for students with identified learning support needs, including those with disabilities.
$630,000 Check and Connect To scale up Check & Connect in Auckland to provide additional mentors for at-risk students referred to the service by schools and kura.
$600,000 Attendance Service Increase to the Attendance Service capacity – to rapidly connect with and actively support learners to re-engage with school.
